Zukunftsphilologie: Revisiting the Canon of Textual Scholarship was a program initiated by Freie Universität and the Forum Transregionale Studien in 2010 and came to an end in 2023. It was directed by Islam Dayeh. The program supported critical research on the history of philological practices and textual scholarship by integrating marginalized scholarly traditions from across the world and interrogating Eurocentric and colonial paradigms. The program supported 22 innovative research projects through its international fellowship program.
Born out of numerous seminar series, workshops and conferences in Berlin, Cairo, Leiden, Delhi, Cape Town, Paris, and Rabat, the program continues in the form of Philological Encounters. The journal is dedicated to a historical and philosophical critique of philology, promotes critical and comparative perspectives, and includes textual scholarship and linguistic research from across the world.
