Ronit Ricci

is associate professor at the School of Culture, History and Language at the Australian National University and the departments of Religion and Asian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She holds BA and MA degrees from the Hebrew University and a Ph.D in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan. Her research interests include Javanese and Malay Islamic literary traditions, Indonesian manuscript cultures, translation studies, and the history of exile in colonial Asia.

Her book, Islam Translated: Literature, Conversion, and the Arabic Cosmopolis of South and Southeast Asia (University of Chicago Press, 2011) won the 2013 Benda Prize in Southeast Asian Studies and the American Academy of Religion's 2012 Best First Book in the History of Religions Award. Her current project is a study of the history and literary culture of the Sri Lankan Malays.
