The Dahlem International Network Junior Research Group “Arabic Philology and Textual Practices in the Early Modern Period” investigates the history of language-based sciences and textual practices in the early modern Arab-Islamic world (1500-1900).

The project is directed by Islam Dayeh, associated with the Seminar for Semitic and Arabic Studies of the Freie Universität Berlin and supported by the Freie Universität Berlin within the Excellence Initiative of the German Research Foundation. Doctoral candidates are Colinda Lindermann and Rossella De Luca. 

Program Direction

Islam Dayeh directs the Dahlem International Network Junior Research Group “Arabic Philology and Textual Practices in the Early Moden Period” and is Assistant Professor of Arabic at the Free University of Berlin. He is also editor in chief of the peer-reviewed journal Philological Encounters (Brill).
